Registering your Stud Name
with the AMGR

How to Become a Registered Breeder

*Once you have become an MGBA Member you can apply to register a stud prefix, consisting of not more than 20 letters in total, to become a Registered Miniature Goat Breeder. The Stud Prefix is used to identify all animals bred by the Stud and for animals registered in the Stud name. Registered Breeder details (as indicated on the Stud Registration form), will be listed for public access.

*It is the responsibility of the Registering Breeder to contact the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries (in your State) to register your property with DPI&F if you have one or more goats (or other livestock), they will issue you with a PIC (Property Identification Code). You will need to list your PIC on your application to register your Stud for your application to be considered.

*IDENTIFICATION animals must carry a NLIS ear tag.
Application to register/transfer is only accepted when (individual animal) tag number or tattoo allocation is listed.

Contact your State Government for correct details regarding National Livestock Identification System.
New South Wales, South Australia, Queensland, Victoria, Tasmania, Western Australia and the Northern Territory

TATTOO MARKS: Breeders wishing to use TATTOO marking as a form of identification will be required to use their 2-3 character, AMGR recorded sequence OR DPI issued NLIS sequence for registration purposes. Each animal bred by you must be marked with this together with an individual serial number. Individual serial number should consist of two digits specifying year of birth followed by two digits indicating the sequence in which the animal was born on your stud, eg: 0803, 3rd animal born on your stud in 2008. Green ink is recommended.
Goats will NOT be eligible for entry into the Registry's Stud Book if they are not permanently marked and animals not carrying their recorded identification will have registration revoked.

*An AMGR Stud Registration Application is to be filled out and posted to the address provided along with the correct registration fee.

*Before you choose a name, you should check the existing Stud names listed in the AMGR Registered Stud Names List.

*Upon being accepted as a Registered Breeder, a Breeder is required;
(a) to keep accurate records of all operations connected with acquisitions and sales, births, height upgrades, deaths and breeding activities of registered animals on your Stud.
(b) to ensure that animals registered to you are height verified when due,
(c) to sign transfer on back of certificate when you have finalized the sale of your registered animal/s,
(d) to provide a signed Service Certificate &/or submit a Buck Return for my stud buck/s when selling an in-kid doe or after service to an outside animal when transaction is finalized.
(e) to work in accordance with your State Primary Industry and Council laws.
